Motherhood and Career

Before she had children, Alice Proujansky spent more than a decade honing her skills as a documentary photographer and photography educator. She had built a successful career doing what she loved, and has been published in The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, and New York Magazine.

“I had a whole identity that centered in a large part around my career, around what photography meant, and how much I believed in documentary photography,” Proujansky told Women in the World. But when she became pregnant with William, the first of her two children at age 32, that identity was called into question.
